Without getting too technical, a solar home has panels that generate electricity when it’s sunny; this power goes to a regulator, which charges a battery bank. The battery bank stores the power from the sun for use at night or through cloudy periods. An inverter is used to transform the DC current from the batteries to AC for household appliances.
The size of a system will depend on how much energy you use, and for back up a generator can be incorporated so you are never without power.
